PGR Away Day

PGR Away Day

19th March 2024, marked an enlightening and productive day for the Postgraduate Research (PGR) community at our Law School. From insightful lectures to engaging discussions, the PGR Away Day at the Home of an Art Lover was a testament to the intellectual vibrancy and collaborative spirit that defines our academic environment.

The day commenced with a captivating lecture by Professor Emilios Christodoulidis, who delved into the nuances of legal methods. His expertise illuminated various approaches and techniques, offering invaluable insights to sharpen our research methodologies.

Following Professor Christodoulidis’ lecture, the day unfolded with two enriching presentations by distinguished speakers, Dr. Javier Solana and Dr. Lea Raible. Solana and Raible shared invaluable guidance on navigating the landscape of post-doctoral opportunities and job applications in general. Their perspectives, drawn from rich experiences, provided a roadmap for PGRs to embark on their academic and professional journeys with confidence.

In the afternoon session, the Head of the Law School, Professor Claire McDiarmid, delivered an insightful address to us, offering valuable reflections on her personal PhD journey. Then, the PGR cohort was divided into small groups, presenting their research to colleagues. These presentations served as platforms for stimulating discussions and constructive feedback from both peers and faculty members. The collaborative atmosphere fostered by these exchanges nurtured intellectual growth and encouraged interdisciplinary perspectives.

The day culminated in roundtable discussions on methodological approaches, where participants engaged in lively debates on the challenges and possibilities inherent in their chosen methods. These discussions not only deepened our understanding of diverse methodologies but also underscored the importance of reflexivity in our research endeavours.

As the PGR Away Day drew to a close, it left a lasting impression of camaraderie, learning, and professional development. The insights gleaned from the lectures, presentations, and discussions will undoubtedly inform and enrich our research pursuits in the days to come.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the faculty members for their invaluable contributions to making this event a resounding success. Special thanks to Vera Pavlou and Susan Holmes for all their efforts to make this happen. Here's to continued collaboration and scholarly growth within our vibrant PGR community at the Law School.
